WSOP Announces Eight Poker Hall Of Fame Finalists

The World Series of Poker (WSOP) recently released the list of eight finalists for the 2026 Poker Hall of Fame induction. This selection primarily highlights players who rose to prominence during the poker boom, a key online poker founder, and a long-standing figure in the game.

Following a modification to the induction process, which removed the cap on annual inductees, the eight finalists are Shaun Deeb, Jason Koon, Isaac Haxton, Justin Bonomo, Scott Seiver, Chris Moorman, Mike Matusow, and Isai Scheinberg. These nominees will be considered by the 33 living members of the Hall of Fame, each casting up to four votes. Induction requires a two-thirds majority, or if that is not met, the nominee with the highest vote count will be inducted.

Six of the eight finalists—Deeb, Koon, Haxton, Bonomo, Seiver, and Moorman—represent the generation of players who emerged during the "Moneymaker effect." They are recognized for their achievements in both online and live poker. Scott Seiver is notable for his second consecutive nomination, while Deeb, Koon, Haxton, Bonomo, and Moorman are first-time nominees, having recently met the age requirement of 40. Chris Moorman is the only non-American among this group.

Isai Scheinberg, the founder of PokerStars, is the sole non-player finalist, receiving his seventh nomination. Despite his controversial past relating to the 2011 "Black Friday" events and subsequent legal proceedings, supporters, including Hall of Famer Daniel Negreanu, advocate for his induction due to his significant contributions to the growth of online poker.

Rounding out the list is Mike Matusow, appearing on the ballot for the twelfth time. A four-time WSOP bracelet winner and a figure known as "The Mouth" for his outspoken personality, Matusow has made multiple televised appearances and deep runs in the WSOP Main Event. His continued nomination reflects his sustained presence and accomplishments in the poker world. The expanded opportunity for inductees this year may enhance Matusow's chances of finally securing a spot in the Hall of Fame.

To be considered for the Poker Hall of Fame, nominees must be at least 40 years old, have consistently played for high stakes against top competition, demonstrated sustained excellence, earned peer respect, and stood the test of time. Non-players must have made significant positive contributions to the game's growth and success.
