Poker Player Gambles for His Stack with 'Big Slick' Immediately in WSOP Main Event

Anthony Marini was the first player to exit the 2026 World Series of Poker Main Event. The elimination occurred during Level 1 on Day 1a of the tournament. Marini, holding A♦ K♦, committed his entire starting stack early in the event.

His opponent, Ryan Sands, held A♠ A♣. The pre-flop action saw a raise from an early position, followed by Marini's three-bet to 1,500. Sands then four-bet to 3,500. Marini escalated the betting with a re-raise to 7,500, prompting Sands to jam all-in for the 60,000-chip starting stack. Marini opted to call, creating a significant pot.

A king appeared on the flop, providing Marini with a pair, but no further improvements materialized on the turn or river. Sands secured the 121,000-chip pot, effectively doubling his stack and sending Marini to the rail as the first player eliminated from the championship event.

Despite it being the initial stages of a marathon tournament, Marini's decision to play for his entire stack so early with 'Big Slick' ultimately cost him his entry. Sands' pocket aces held up, marking a swift end to Marini's Main Event run. At the time of this early bust, 514 players had entered Day 1a.

Registration for the Main Event remains open through the two Day 2 flights. The event will feature four Day 1 starting flights, with full live reporting coverage provided until its conclusion on August 5th.
