TL;DR

Andreas Hoivold, the accomplished Norwegian poker professional known for his 2007 EPT Dortmund Main Event win, died on June 17 at 53. A familiar presence in televised poker and a respected figure in the community, Hoivold was inducted into the Norwegian Poker Association Hall of Fame in 2016.

Andreas Hoivold, a prominent figure in the poker community and a Norwegian Poker Association Hall of Famer, passed away on June 17 at the age of 53. Hoivold, born in Sunderland, UK, in October 1972, resided primarily in Kristiansand, Norway, throughout his life.

He began his professional poker career in 2006, swiftly gaining recognition across European and American poker circuits. His most significant achievement came in 2007 when he secured victory in the PokerStars European Poker Tour (EPT) Dortmund Main Event, earning a career-best prize of €672,000.

Hoivold's amiable personality and table demeanor made him a frequent participant in televised poker productions, including Poker Million and Late Night Poker during the mid-to-late 2000s. He notably finished third in Poker Million V in 2006, collecting $250,000.

Though a regular at the World Series of Poker (WSOP), with three dozen cashes in bracelet events, a WSOP title eluded him; his closest attempt was a sixth-place finish in the $3,000 No-Limit Hold'em Shootout at the 2015 WSOP. In recognition of his contributions to the sport, the Norwegian Poker Association inducted him into its Hall of Fame the following year.

Reports from Poker.no in March 2024 highlighted Hoivold's third Norwegian Poker Championship title, noting his return to the championships after a hiatus and a win in the Seniors Event despite an injury. The same outlet later confirmed his death due to organ failure, shortly after he had made plans for international travel.
